FROM THE CLINIC
Study Finds Lithium Could Reverse Cognitive Decline

The future you might be chasing your creatine pills with a lithium smoothie to avoid the grim reaper.
That same mineral powering EV batteries.
Kinda gross? But kinda rad.
Researchers found that topping up the brain’s natural lithium might not just slow Alzheimer’s, but actually reverse memory loss.
Here’s the 411 on their findings:
Lithium depletion in the brain is linked to increased amyloid plaques and tau tangles (hallmarks of Alzheimer’s) The disease sets up a feedback loop: low lithium → more plaques → even lower lithium.
Lithium carbonate, a common supplement, binds to plaques and becomes trapped, reducing effectiveness.
Lithium orotate avoids plaque entrapment and can distribute more effectively through brain tissue.
In mouse models of Alzheimer’s, low doses of lithium orotate restored normal lithium levels, reduced plaques/tangles, and improved cognitive performance. 🎉
It’s early days (no, don’t start popping lithium pills just yet), but researchers might be onto something here.

They collect everything (genes, microbiomes, diet, sleep, blood tests, imaging, wearables) and follow participants for decades.
The end goal?
Use AI to spot early warning signs of disease, redefine what “normal” health looks like, and create super-personalized medicine.
And it’s working…👇🏼
Excited to share a milestone published in @NatureMedicine from our decade-long effort to build The Human Phenotype Project, a unique longitudinal cohort with unmatched depth of clinical and multi-omic profiling, enabling truly predictive, personalized medicine.
